DOMAIN NAME EMAIL SCAM
Be aware there is a new scam on the go.
A mail is circulating at the moment with the subject Problem: Inaccurate whois information. And a link to what you think is enom.com in effect its taking you to a different sight just check the URL. This site if it does not end with just .com then its one of the Phishing sites. This just means that when you login to the site and update your domain info you are in effect giving your domain to the owner of the site and they will transfer it to their name thus you end up with no domain and no site. They will contact you if you went ahead with this to buy the domain back at a very high price one sale has been recorded not from my client list for 400 USA Dollars. The only company that will ever ask for you to click a link to confirm details is ICAN and the link just takes you to a page with your details and you confirm by clicking a button no and I repeat NO info is asked for at all. This is so you can advise your clients that they may get this email to delete it this email started its rounds on Saturday and already one of the fake sites has been pulled by ICAN but there are more. so be careful what you click and alway read the url web address. Re: DOMAIN NAME EMAIL SCAM
makeitso Wrote:Be aware there is a new scam on the go. Thanks for posting this! I went back through some of my e-mail, and I've been receiving these as well. I get such massive amounts of spam, that I pay very little attention to them any more. As with any phishing e-mails, one should take extreme caution. As technology progresses further, these e-mails become more and more sophisticated. Also, these enom.com letters are very convincing, but what gave it away is that I don't have any domains with enom, so they sent it blindly. |

Re: DOMAIN NAME EMAIL SCAM
we have a server set just to catch such spam mail and we do go through it evey other day and yes its amazing just how good these emails have become some even using url masking so it looks like the real thing even with the proper url. We really need to keep on the toes as to what we click on in our mail as some mail even to click on it to read it mails the sender to let them know your account is working and real then site back and watch the spam grow. We had an account once that we had to close because of this very metod it was never handed out to anyone and with in days the mail went from one or two to thousands.
A good thing to try is this open you command window on xp its run and in the box type cmd on vista its from the search as far as i know just type cmd in vista and a command window will appear in that window type netstat this will list the status of your pc and what its conectiong to and more import whos looking at you you will be some what impressed to see all them ips your pc is looking at  .
